House sitting and insurance laws

My sister in law was house sitting and was attacked by the ladies dog. The insurance company is refusing to compensate her based on the fact she is considered the owner at the time of the accident. There is permenant damage to her hand and she is massage therapist.

ANSWER: There are a couple of hurdles your sister-in-law could have trying to get compensation. For one, assuming she was inside the house without witnesses, it will be hard to prove that the attack was unprovoked.

Another reason could very well be the language the insurance company uses in its coverage policy. If they are dealing with your sister-in-law in good faith and being honest, it's likely there is a section in the policy stating that this type of situation will not be covered.

The best idea is to contact a personal injury lawyer in your area to consult with. Some states have more aggressive laws than others in dealing with dog bite injury claims.
