My Boyfriend Knew He Was Giving Me STD

Does anyone know if it is illegal to knowingly give someone an STD? I can't believe it, I'm in complete shock. Not to go into private details but one day I started showing STD symptoms. When I went to get tested it was confirmed that I'm infected.

I confronted my boyfriend to ask if he was cheating on me because I was being completely faithful. There was no doubt that I got this from him, it's not like you all of a sudden get STDs doing nothing. After arguing for a very long time, after a few days he came to me crying that he knew he had a disease when he met me. He said he thought it would scare me away, duh! He went on to say he was just hoping and praying I wouldn't end up catching it. Complete BS followed by more BS.

We are broken up now and I can't stand to even think about him. But he has essentially ruined my life and I was wondering what kind of legal action I could take against him. Thanks for your help if you have any advice.
