Registered nurse back injuries - Is this legal?

I am a Regisered Nurse. I now have 3 permanent back injuries. I took a job for about two years now that I feel I was able to do.

An incident occurred involving a patient who was falling and required my assistance.

In doing so I exacerbated my present injuries. I then took 2 weeks off to recover per MD. I used my own sick time and did not ask for Workmens Compensation. Just want to return to my job now.

My employer will not let me return until I sign to give them full access to all of my medical records. IS this legal?

Answer:

I am not sure what your employer's motive is as I'm sure this is quite the complicated situation. It may just be that your employer wants to make sure you will not be in a dangerous position since you have permanent injuries.

Before seeking legal action, you should consult with the human resources of your company. They should have the exact details of the employer/employee agreement that you agreed to when you were hired. Or if you have a copy then you can see if there is a section that covers the procedures when something like this happens.
